Wedding Day - November 13, 2010

Rehearsal - OMG!

OMG I can't believe tomorrow is the big day! We had rehearsal today and I wish I could say everything and everybody was in their best behaviour and that everything went smoothly, haha, but well that is just not possible. Tomorrow will be here and I know everything and everyone will be just right.

Wow, tomorrow I'll officially be Johanna Gomez. Thank you Lord for this whole journey, and for my new life that begins tomorrow. Thank you for the support you have given me through my mom, aunt, family and friends. This whole process did just that, it showed me how much people care and wanted to be a part of this day. Its going to be a great day. :)

ok - invitation text DONE :)

It was a process to get done with the wording - and after looking online for samples and even creating the one mentioned in the previous post - we didn't have it done.  Then yesterday knowing that the printing co. was waiting for this - I got inspired...and here it is:

"El amor todo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.  El amor nunca deja de ser..."

En este día me caso con el que ama mi alma, mi regalo de parte de Dios, mi promesa esperada y sueño echo realidad.  Junto con nuestros padres, queremos invitarlo a que sea testigo de esta unión.

in English - especially for those english-speaking only! (sorry)

"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."

On this day I marry the one who loves my soul, my gift from God, my awaited promise and dream come true.  Together with our parents, we want to invite you to be witness of this union.

---

I called mik right away and emailed it to him for his 'review and input' - he said it was perfect.  :)  I read a verse in Songs of Solomon that said 'found the one that loves my soul' and that's what triggered it. For mik and I, we are a gift from God to each other, he seriously is that promise I had but was waiting for, and he completely is a dream come true.  I love him.  I love you.

And the verse, well we've all read that verse in 1 Corinthians 13:7-8 or heard it used for several things.  I didn't think that would be the verse until I read it again when we were searching for 'the' verse for our invitations.  And this has been our relationship from day 1.  We knew who we wanted to bear all things things, come what may.  We were believing God that He would provide, He would open doors, He would lead our path, and in that we had Hope, hope that God was going to take care of us - and even though there have been rough paths along the way, we've endured and that is our promise to one another  -to endure it together, always.

So there you have it - our invitation wording and how it came about.  :)

scratch that - he wants input :)

oh bless mik, bless him.

So I emailed him my idea for the invitations and he wrote back saying that he felt in needed something. He resends me what he has written and Mr. pretty much cut out what I wrote and only kept the verse. What he wrote was your normal traditional wording....boring.

So I ask myself "why do I keep asking him for his input?" hahaha.

So we're back on the writing board for the invitations....my mom suggested we should just do them in english, that way it just sounds normal. We shall see. We shall see.

I'm bad at blogging - sorry!

I've been bad about blogging and keeping this up-to-date.  Well we're less than 100 days away from getting married and it has been a blast!

I've told people that it seems like we haven't gotten much done, but once we actually start telling people what we've done - we feel accomplished, we've done a lot!

Today we get our Save the Date postcards, I can't wait! - we'll start mailing them out tomorrow!!! I finished our wording for our invitations today and just waiting for Mik's ok (in checking spelling/grammar!)

Here's the text:

"El amor todo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.  El amor nunca deja de ser..." 1 Cor. 13:7-8

En este dia me caso con mi amigo, mi amiga, que fue dada por Dios para celebrar la promesa de amor, fe y de vida.  Junto con nuestros padres, tenemos el honor de invitarlo a que sea testigo de esta unión.

....I know its in spanish - but the majority of our guest are bilingual, and only 6 speak only English! so its been a hard decision but the invitations will be in Spanish.  I mean, we are Mexican after all! ha.

We'll get this out to the print shop and have them in a month.  Exciting.

Today I also decided on the colors for the table linen.  I know, linen! Believe it or not, it was a difficult decision!  I wanted to stay true to who I am, what I love.  I know I should say 'stay true to who WE are' 'what WE love' but let's be honest, Mik doesn't care about colors! ha.   I know its going to look great.

Again, I've been really bad about blogging, but I promise to do this more often.  Its been a whirl wind of emotions and activities....next - bridal shower! oh boy.

We're Engaged!!!!!

My day started off normal. I knew Mik had the day planned to celebrate our 1 yr anniversary, but I didn't think what happened this day would really really happen on this day. We started off by making breakfast at the house. This is always hilarious since Mik is barely learning to boil water through me!

Beach
We spent the early part of the day at the beach. It was so relaxing. Perfect weather.
Mik took my guitar and to my surprise, he wanted to make the arrangement for 'you are my strength' - my song.

I loved it, sharing a part of my life, my past with him through that song. He then sang to me and we just had a great time.

Then we looked at the time and he said it was time to go. Even though I tried to get hints from him of what the rest of the day would be like, he said nothing. So we drove home to get ready for dinner reservations.

Mr. A's
Mik hadn't told me exactly where he was taking me to dinner. He just told me to dress up and that we had a reservation. He mentioned it was by Balboa Park, but even with that, I didn't know what restaurant he would be taking me to. We get there and I still don't know where we're going, its just a normal building from the outside.
So he tells me its in the 12th floor...Bertrands Mr. A's. It was beautiful. Expensive, but beautiful. You overlook all of downtown San Diego and the bay. It was an amazing amazing, delicious wine, salad, dinner, dessert, coffee, view and company. The staff were great, the whole experience was great, well worth the price!

They had asked us what we were celebrating so they brought this out at the end for us with our dessert....yummi!

Surprise Ride
After having an amazing and delicious dinner, he said the next and best part of the surprise was next but that first I needed to be blindfolded. What? ha. So I did as he asked an allowed him to blindfold me the whole way to the next location. I actually didn't mind, I love surprises and am hardly surprised! so it was a nice change and didn't want to cheat and ruin my surprise. Then again, I was tired, so it was a nice relaxing ride.

Gondola
So we get to the location, yet I'm still blind folded. Mik had to make a quick stop, which sort-a started making me think of what the surprise was....but again I didn't want to ruin it so I was good....and did whatever he said. (wow) So after he made me walk holding on to his arm for a while, even though I overheard people talking, someone yelled 'chuckie cheese', then walked through a metal bridge (in heels)....he uncovers my eyes and we're at 'the gondola company' :)
This is where we came for his birthday, and we absolutely loved the experience. It was a great way to continue our celebration.

Proposal
He asked 'Andreti' to stop the gondola. He stands up, I asked him what he was going to do, he said "I'm going to sing to you." The gondola moving side to side, I'm laughing and tell him to be careful...not to fall. Then he balances himself and start kneeling down. What are you doing? 'which is the leg I'm supposed to kneel with?'...'what??? what are you doing?, omg!'
He kneels and reaches in for his pocket, takes out a black box, opens it and extends it to me and says 'Johanna Cervantes, will you be my bride? YES! omg, of course I will!

Memory Jar

TADA! I give you my gift to Mik for our anniversary tomorrow...."the Memory Jar". To be honest I really didn't know what to get him. What kind of gift is considered a 1 yr anniversary gift for when you're going out with someone. Yes, this is the guy I'm going to someday marry, but for now he's just my boyfriend. And so, thanks to Brooke she sparked the idea of printing all our emails and create a book. This sounded awesome, but I was really short on time and I knew being the perfectionist that I am I wouldn't settle for 'alright'. Then I remembered Mikey (from "the mikey show") mentioned giving his wife a memory jar...yes the guys on the show made fun of him for it, but i'm a girl! i'm supposed to be corny! haha, so that was it, I knew I had a project.

Now I was on a mission. A mission to be crafty and buy everything I needed. So with just a jar and really good construction paper and some sticker type of letters...here's the finished product. I handwrote a lot of things we've written to each other via text, memories we've shared, songs we've sung to one another, pictures, things we've expressed to each other via email and moments we've lived.

I thought of making it black and white, but then I thought about not wanting it to look to 'fancy'...hence the color. I loved this project and I know mik will love it too. awwww. que cursi!

Happy 1 yr Anniversary!

I can't believe it's been one year since Miqueas and I started this amazing journey.
